Yes, the other reviewers are right, it was an emotional story, but it was too short. I would have liked to see the H/h re-connect and get to know each other again. The HEA didn't really work for me, because it felt rushed. Since this was a Shiloh Walker, I expected some sex scenes, there weren't any (nothing worth talking about).
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, but I would recommend a similar styled story that was better, Second Chances by Lauren Dane.
Zoe loved Chase but he leaves her and stays away for 15 years. Roger is Chase's best friend and he marries Zoe and they have a good life until his terminal illness. The story line was very predictable.
An absolutely emotionally devastating read. The author pulled the reader in with a light hearted initial meeting between the reader and characters. She then proceeds to lure the reader in with a wonderfully crafted world with an exceptional emotional depth that the reader has no hopes of walking away from. The commitment of the characters to their own unique journey was at times heartbreakingly familiar and an emotional battlefield. The author did a magnificent job of juggling the emotional depth needed and the counter of lighthearted love need in a HEA.
This is an overly simplistic, stupid story that should be kept off the lists. Charcter development is without merit, the story is shallow, the author tries to spice it up at the end with graphic sex to save the book, and it is really a short story, not a novel. Save your money and don't buy it.

I never could care much about Zoe. She and her past loss of Chase were not developed. Then Chase.....he went away for 15 years for no good reason and stayed gone all the while loving Zoe???? Again with no real reason for why he didn't return sooner. And how handy he shows up just in time to watch her husband die. Premise had real possibilities but all facts were to glib. Good technical writing skills and fairly good editing.
Slightly spoilery --- I've loved Shiloh's work for a while, anyway, and of course she didn't disappoint. Chase ran away from his feelings for Zoe years ago, and when he came back to find that she was married to his best friend, it was... well, a shock (to say the least). I loved the way he handled it though. And when Zoe's husband was diagnosed with his tumor, Chase didn't act like a big jerk and think "YAY! Now's my chance!" He acted like the man she fell in love with all those years ago and the best friend he really was and stood by their side. He was the hero the book called for, and not the slimy jerk I sort of expected (no offense, Shiloh - it's where I expect any man to go). That's what made me love him. The fact that he was a stand up guy when he needed to be. And when it came down to it, I loved the fact that Zoe a) truly loved her husband b) stood by her husband until the very end and c) didn't run to Chase the second her husband died. She gave herself the time she needed to grieve. Ultimately, I really enjoyed this book as I did all other Shiloh Walker books. She's an amazing author & manages to capture my heart with every character she writes.
