I purchased this as part of my preparation for a new career in nonfiction writing. I was looking for a short introduction to publishing ebooks for Amazon and other platforms. This book did not disappoint me. The price was right. This book gave me an excellent start for understanding the basic steps I must take to ensure that my books are prepared for publishing. I liked Dr. Webb's Introduction with its list of publishing tasks. I will use his list as my starting point. I also liked the first chapter covering editing and revising. I used an editor in my professional life but was unaware of the different kinds of editing. I know more today after finishing Dr. Webb's short book than I did before completing it.You might wonder why I did not give this book five stars. I found it to be useful, succinct, and clear. I believe it could be improved. I recommend that the action steps be revised into an action checklist. In addition it would be very helpful to add an appendix that includes a step by step sequence of the action steps from each chapter in the order Dr. Webb suggests they should be completed. From my perspective these two changes would set this slim book apart from those of his nearest competitors. If I gave this book five stars Dr. Webb might never see my suggestions.
Good job. And thank you for pointing me in the right direction as I begin this new phase of my life.

I have been self-publishing non-fiction books for several years. I started my own publishing company to do so and, aside from that, have made plenty of mistakes along the way that I wish I could go back and correct. I have been reading Dr. Gary Webb's series on self-publishing and have found it to be invaluable information for anyone who wants to find success with kindle publishing. His first book in this series dealt more with finding niches and producing books. This one takes it to the next level.
Book 2 Publishing Books for Growing Sales deals primarily with getting your book published and then promoting it. There are quite a few things that need to be done before a book goes live on and many authors, myself included, have made the mistake of jumping the gun and not being properly prepared. Webb goes into great detail about important things such as proper editing, having a good table of contents, ensuring the book cover is enticing, writing a compelling book description, and setting up your author page. There are also a ton of tips for promoting your book, such as information on the KDP program, pre-order status, pricing strategies, choosing categories, and much more. There is also some great information about releasing a paperback version of your book.
I found this second part to Webb's series to be incredibly thorough, well-written and even inspiring. For anyone looking to get into kindle publishing, it's important to have some good direction and this is some of the best I've seen yet.
Move Into Second Gear!
I look at this Prepare, Publish and Promote Marketing Series as learning to drive. In the first book "Prepare," you learn how to get started covering everything you need to know to create your book. This book No. 2 "Publish!" gets you moving to get your book published. B.T.W. You can start with the second book but like a car, you can start your car moving from second gear but it will be rough and could do some damage to your future success. I suggest you get book one to get smoothly up to speed.
Book No. 2 Publish! I suggest you fasten your seat belt as you are starting to move and will be ready for high speed by the end of this book. Best Selling author Gary Webb is in the co-drivers seat guiding you through all the needed steps the easy way. Just follow his directions and you will not crash.
The first areas are the real secret of success. Most books cover this (if at all) in a paragraph or so. Editing. Editing, or the lack of, can destroy your book sales. Gary reveals all the ins and outs. Why you need an editor and how to find one. Did you know there are several different kinds of editors needed for your book? This chapter is packed with much-needed information on hiring an Editor and/or gives you the information (and links) to the Editing Software Programs. Also covered are the Proof Readers, you'll discover a proof reader is not an editor.
Chapter 2 reveals the little noticed hidden sales tools like front and back matter, title page and table of contents. You learn what and how to write for top sales.
Chapter 3 shows you how to format your book and make your table of contents clickable. Your manuscript must be in a special layout to publish on . You also learn how to format your book for Barnes and Noble and the other eBook marketers. Print versions of your book are not forgotten. You will know how to format for print, you can even get just one printed copy.
Chapters 4 reveals the insider information on creating your book covers. Everything is detailed from the title, graphic, lettering to The Book Cover Ten Commandments. This information packed chapter is better than any Book Cover training or course on the market. Don't do or buy another cover until you read this chapter.
Each of the seven chapters covers in detail a specific area of publishing. I currently have 15 books published, and many are currently listed Best Sellers in Category. But I still found many very useful ideas and strategies to make my operation much smoother and will cut a chunk of my publishing prep time. In this book, I discovered so many little important things that I am not doing. A professional author's photo is a good example. My professional photos are 20 years old.
I was very impressed with Prepare, Publish, Promote - Book 1. But Prepare, Publish, Promote – Book 2 blew me away. I thought I knew all this stuff. I am annoyed author Gary Webb has not finished Prepare, Publish, Promote - Book 3. I Want It Now! But truthfully, I have several changes to make before I move into the high gear. But I will grab it as soon as published like I did for this book 2.
If you are into publishing, you NEED the three books of this series. You will slow down your success if you don't grab the two books that are available now.
To say Highly Recommended is an understatement!
I bought the first book in this series and was looking forward to his one. I wasn't disappointed! The book is an A-Z book on how to publish your own book. It is truly invaluable. He literally holds your hand in the process. He explains everything from the importance of editing (he even gives specific recommendations), how to manage "createspace; what size your pages should be; how to format your book; how to manage KDP, and a ton more.
I would pay many times the price of this book just for the links alone! You know how you have to google about any aspect of writing/publishing a book? This book contains the link to anything you might need to publish a book. And he appears to have no personal investment in the links he refers you too, and many are "free" and effective tools. And I mean everything. As I said, if that was all he wrote (the links), I'd pay far more just for that.
If you are seeking a one-stop book that contains ALL the fundamentals of successfully publishing your own book, this is the one for you.
